Whatever the season, spending time with Mother Nature can be a great stress reliever. For some, this means taking a leisurely stroll through a quiet wooded area. For others, it means roughing it in the middle of nowhere for several days. Luckily, for those of us living in Central Missouri, there are plenty of ways for everyone to enjoy the great outdoors.
Whether you just want to camp out in the back yard with the kids or are trying to plan an extended excursion, the library has plenty of resources for you. Our second floor table display at the Columbia Public Library, which will be up until June 23, highlights books on hiking and camping. Visit the periodicals area on the third floor to find the most recent issues of Backpacker Magazine and Outside. Also check out the Hobbies and Crafts Reference Center in our list of free databases. This resource includes articles and book chapters on a wide variety of topics, including “Outdoors & Nature.” You should also take a look at the Missouri State Parks website for a complete list of destinations where you can enjoy your favorite outdoor activities.
