New Year’s resolutions often revolve around weight loss or improved fitness. How about a resolution that frees up some space on your nightstand or lightens your to-be-read list instead? I’m a big fan of tackling a reading challenge each year, and 2013 offers up plenty for the picking.
What’s a reading challenge? The concept is simple. Pick a challenge, read books according to that challenge’s guidelines and share your reviews of those books with other readers. The blog A Novel Challenge acts as a sort of bulletin board for these reading events, and it is a good place to start if you are new to the concept.
If you are a voracious reader and want an extreme challenge, you can commit to reading 52 books in 52 weeks. If you simply want to get through all of those books you’ve placed on hold or bought but not gotten around to reading, choose a to-be-read pile challenge. And if you got a fancy new e-reader over the holidays, there is even an eBook challenge.
For me, hitting the books is way more fun than hitting the gym. Have a favorite book challenge of your own? Let us know in the comments.
